PayPay Corporate Engineering

Rapid service growth and organizational expansion necessitate quick updates to business flows and systems. PayPay's Corporate Engineers are responsible for in-house development of business systems that support all areas of PayPay, including merchant, customer, and authority domains. With the mission to "contribute to the company's growth through technology," we drive development and business efficiency at an overwhelming pace. This department includes members with various roles involved in in-house development, from IT strategy formulation to full-scratch application development and infrastructure engineering, working as one team.

About the Role

AI Transformation Department

Our mission in the AI Transformation Department is to "redefine operations using AI technology to further improve business productivity." Currently, we have an organizational culture where software engineers proficient in AI and web application development, project managers, and members with different backgrounds respect each other's technical knowledge and proceed with agile and flat discussions and development.

Background for Recruitment

PayPay is currently strongly promoting the introduction of AI Agents as a key to company-wide productivity improvement. However, AI technology evolves rapidly, and the biggest bottleneck is "designing the right questions (requirements definition)" on how to solve on-site "problems" with AI. Therefore, we have established a new role, "Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)," who will stand between the development department and the front lines, deeply understand on-site operations, embody AI solutions as prototypes, and lead them to production implementation. We are looking for colleagues who can speak both technical and business languages and accelerate transformation across organizational boundaries.

Responsibilities

This position will deeply engage in PayPay's core operations and lead the entire process from abstracting business issues, architectural design, PoC implementation, to organizational deployment. Furthermore, the role involves autonomously making decisions regarding technology selection and approaches.

  • Deep Dive into On-site Operations and Issue Identification: Immerse yourself in business department operations, identify "essential issues to be solved by AI" through interviews and observation of workflows.
  • Prototype (PoC) Development: For identified issues, quickly build and present "working solutions" to the field, utilizing LLM (Large Language Models) and various AI APIs.
  • Requirements Definition and Technical Bridging: Based on on-site feedback, formulate requirements specifications for production implementation. Implement or supervise important components yourself, and bridge the technical context and business background to development engineers.
  • Product Management: Lead the release, adoption, and continuous improvement of AI Agent tools from a product owner perspective.

These are examples utilizing generative AI, and we expect you to delve into on-site operations, discover, and propose new use cases.

  • Internal Knowledge Utilization Agent: Built a mechanism to answer questions, often asked directly to general affairs or IT support staff, via a Slack chatbot using RAG.
  • Application Automation Agent: Implemented a system where an AI Agent pre-processes applications from various departments and prepares them up to the point of execution.
  • Internal Knowledge Dashboard: Easily search internal development knowledge, previously confirmed directly with product managers, using Snowflake Intelligence as basic information for new development and improvements.

Required Experience/Skills

  • Over 5 years of practical experience in software development.
  • Experience leading overall system architecture design and technology selection in actual projects.
  • Experience directly interacting with customers or internal business departments to define requirements specifications and perform product management.
  • Experience developing applications utilizing APIs (especially LLM-related), or strong willingness to learn.
  • Business-level Japanese conversation, reading, and writing skills (JLPT N1 or equivalent).

Desirable Experience/Skills

  • Experience in designing and building cloud-native IT infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Experience in practicing agile development (Scrum, etc.).
  • Experience in designing considering non-functional requirements (security, scalability, operations).
  • Experience in business process consulting or BPR (Business Process Re-engineering).
  • Daily conversational level English conversation, reading, and writing skills.
