Overview

As a Data Scientist at Microsoft AI, you will play a critical role in maximizing GPU utilization and solving challenging issues at the forefront of AI. Our vision is to build comprehensive AI systems across agents, applications, services, and infrastructure, making AI accessible to all. You will join the Microsoft AI (MAI) team to develop the next generation of capabilities for Copilot, our personal AI. The abuse prevention team, which you will be a part of, is responsible for identifying and mitigating instances of abuse within Copilot, ensuring a safe and productive experience for all users.

This role requires strong technical skills, a methodical data-driven approach to problem-solving, and the ability to architect robust, templated solutions. We value positive energy, empathy, and kindness within the team. Employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles of that location, starting January 26, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Drive product insights, opportunity analysis, and track metrics to support efforts across Microsoft Copilot.
  • Develop new methods for instrumenting and measuring impact to evaluate new feature performance through experimentation.
  • Define metrics and construct basic data pipelines to enable A|B experimentation for new features and for mitigating abusive users.
  • Perform hands-on analysis of large volumes of telemetry data using various algorithms and tools.
  • Articulate insights, create data-driven storyboards, and communicate effectively to influence leadership and key decision-makers.
  • Navigate roadblocks efficiently to deliver work to users quickly and iteratively.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, design-driven, product development cycle.
  • Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, and marketing to tackle ambiguous projects that foster user growth, engagement, and retention. This includes identifying market opportunities, optimizing application flows, improving product features, and proposing innovative solutions based on data.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 1+ year(s) of data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results). OR
  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 3+ years of data-science experience. OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 5+ years of data-science experience OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 3+ years of data-science experience. OR
  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 5+ years of data-science experience. OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 7+ years of data-science experience OR equivalent experience.
