About the Role

Hilti is significantly investing in expanding its software and service portfolio and digitizing customer workflows. Within the Business Unit Fastening & Protection Solutions (BU FPS), which develops cutting-edge end-to-end solutions for structural connections, MEP supports, and fire protection, we identify substantial opportunities in leveraging data, advanced analytics, and Generative AI to automate and optimize design and engineering tasks for our customers (value engineering).

As a Data Scientist in the newly formed Data & Analytics team of BU FPS, your primary responsibility will involve exploring, analyzing, and modeling complex datasets to deliver actionable insights and predictive capabilities. These will enhance Hilti’s customer-facing software and service solutions. You will design and implement advanced analytics approaches, train and validate machine learning models, and contribute to generative AI initiatives. Collaborating closely with software and data engineers, ML specialists, and business stakeholders, you will ensure data-driven solutions are robust, scalable, and integrated into production systems to achieve measurable business impact.

What You'll Do

As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in transforming data into actionable insights and advanced analytical solutions that drive innovation for Hilti’s customer-facing products and services. Your mission is to leverage statistical analysis, machine learning, and Generative AI to solve complex business problems, enable data-driven decision-making, and help our customers to become more productive. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, ML engineers, and data engineers.

The Role Will Require You To:

  • Design and develop advanced analytics and ML models for both traditional and Generative AI use cases, including feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and interpretation.
  • Translate business challenges into data-driven solutions, applying statistical and machine learning techniques to deliver measurable impact.
  • Drive innovation and mentor others by exploring emerging ML and GenAI technologies, recommending enhancements to existing systems, and coaching junior team members to foster a culture of technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with ML Engineers to ensure models are production-ready and integrated seamlessly into customer-facing applications.
  • Work with Data Engineers to define data requirements and ensure high-quality, well-structured datasets for modeling and analysis.
  • Together with the team, you will deliver sustainable, data-driven solutions that support Hilti’s long-term goals while creating tangible short-term value for our customers.

What You’ll Bring

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field; preference for a Master’s degree.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in applying advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to real-world business problems, ideally in cloud-based environments (AWS or similar).
  • Strong expertise in data preprocessing, feature engineering, model development, and evaluation, including experience with LLM architectures, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI API) and familiarity with integrating models into production systems via APIs.
  • Proficiency with AWS services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, Glue, Athena, and Lambda for analytics and ML workflows.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities in English, and the capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while driving innovation and delivering measurable business impact.
