About the Company
Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is a publicly funded research institute based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It brings together a diverse community of leading scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and researchers globally to transform problems into pioneering research and technology prototypes that advance society.
Autonomous Robotics Research Centre
The Autonomous Robotics Research Centre focuses on unmanned vehicles across various environments (space, air, land, sea, underwater) to improve safety, environmental protection, and operational effectiveness at lower costs in industrial and mission-critical settings.
Key research activities include:
- UAV research and development, covering platforms, real-time operating systems, perception and communication algorithms, control, and decision-making algorithms.
- Wireless and networked robotics.
- Swarm architectures for heterogeneous drones.
- Low-power platforms for nano-size and pico-size UAVs.
- Bio-inspired, evolutionary, and self-organized methodologies.
About the Role
A research engineer in the Networked Robotics team will be instrumental in facilitating the real-world deployment of multi-robot systems. This role emphasizes extending the communication and sensing capabilities of robots through the utilization of various communication technologies, necessitating a foundational understanding of these technologies.
The position requires the delivery of working prototypes, making a hands-on approach and experience with both hardware and software highly beneficial. Ideal candidates will either possess strong hardware and microcontroller programming skills (with a preference for custom electronics design ability) or demonstrate exceptional programming capabilities combined with experimental work experience.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in the development of software/hardware for robotic systems.
- Programming skills in Python, C, C++.
- Working experience in robotic ecosystems (e.g., ROS, ROS2, Dronecode/PX4) and simulators (e.g., Gazebo, ns-2, ns-3, Airsim, jMavSim, Argos).
- Experience with nano-drones (e.g., Crazyflie) and Linux is a plus.
- Knowledge of work tools: git/Bitbucket, Confluence, Jira.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; capability to work effectively in a team.
Qualifications
- Master or PhD degree in robotics, computer engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, or a related field.
