About the Role
Do you want to build the AI that builds the AI? Today is the world of “pervasive intelligence” where products and processes need to incorporate forms of Machine Learning and data-driven intelligence at a rapid pace. We need more machine learning models than data science teams can create and/or keep up with to meet this demand. This future demands that we make data scientists more productive by empowering anyone needing a quantitative prediction from data with the ability to create, evaluate and deploy ML Models. The Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) team is part of the Azure AI Platform and is leading the charter for “Democratizing AI for the Intelligent edge and Intelligent cloud”. AutoML team works on developing new meta-machine learning models to automate the construction and tuning of machine learning solutions. The goal of the team is to help expert Data Scientists, Enthusiasts and Business Users to build high quality, enterprise ready, machine learning models with the click of a button. Automated ML covers classification, regression, time series forecasting, natural language processing, computer vision -- and any machine learning task you can build to cover our customer’s needs.
We are looking for a Senior (Applied) Data Scientist that specializes and has passion for developing ML technologies. You will be part of this high-energy team and will contribute to and work alongside many talented colleagues on exciting ML problems! Experience having used machine learning or deep learning as a main skill on your job is required in this role, as the intuition associated with such experiences can help make our systems naturally easy to use for data scientists. We also believe in learning and growing on the job, so being passionate about the latest developments in ML and deep learning and a desire to learn is a requirement for this role.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development of Automated ML’s modeling capabilities.
- Bring knowledge of cutting-edge and industry leading advances in areas such as statistical learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and collaborate with experts to further advance it.
- Engage with consumers of data science solutions, as well as data scientists whose favorite tools we aim to create.
- Build the product that solves data science and ML problems in their full complexity and translate solutions to automatable methods.
- Drive incorporation of customer-inspired innovations into our software.
- Produce impact by taking holistic ownership of features, frequently implementing core algorithms, evangelizing and representing them, and working with engineering teams to see them through into production.
Qualifications
- Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Operations Research or related areas (Ph.D. preferred).
- Outstanding expertise and research experience on statistical machine learning, natural language processing, and deep learning.
- Familiarity with statistical inference, experimentation, and optimization.
- Team player with excellent problem solving and data analysis skills. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- You can expect approximately 25-40% of the time spent on coding, hence prior experience and proficiency in coding related to prototyping as well as production software is required.
- Expertise in Python, R, Open-Source ML/Data science packages.
- Experience working with big data tools like Spark, HDI, Hadoop etc. and distributed computing frameworks is preferred.
- 6+ years of working experience in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and etc.
