About NVIDIA

NVIDIA’s invention of the GPU in 1999 sparked the growth of the PC gaming market, redefined modern computer graphics, and revolutionized parallel computing. More recently, GPU deep learning ignited modern AI — the next era of computing — with the GPU acting as the brain of computers, robots, and self-driving cars that can perceive and understand the world.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Optical Engineer to join the team and develop cutting-edge optical systems for NVIDIA's next-generation products. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of optical system development, from initial concept and design through prototyping, validation, and production. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering to ensure successful integration and performance of optical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and optimize complex optical systems for various applications, including camera modules, VR/AR displays, and photonic integrated circuits.
  • Develop and implement innovative optical metrology techniques for testing and characterization of optical components and systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturing partners to ensure successful fabrication and assembly of optical components and modules.
  • Conduct hands-on lab work, including optical alignment, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze and interpret optical measurement data, identify root causes of issues, and propose effective solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in optical technology and apply them to product development.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong background in optical design, system engineering, and metrology.
  • Proficiency with optical design software such as Zemax, Code V, or LightTools.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++ for data analysis and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with optical metrology equipment, including spectrometers, interferometers, microscopes, and detectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and validate complex optical systems from concept to production.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with waveguide optics, micro-optics, diffractive optics, freeform optics, or polarization optics.
  • Familiarity with image quality metrics and camera system characterization.
  • Experience in the consumer electronics or automotive industry.
