About the team

NVIDIA is looking for an experienced and outstanding Senior Optical Engineer to join the Silicon Photonics team. The team focuses on developing groundbreaking optical interconnect solutions to address the challenges of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and bringing innovative products to market.

What you'll be doing

  • Design, simulate, and optimize photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for high-speed optical interconnects.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of novel optical devices and sub-systems, including optical waveguides, couplers, modulators, and detectors.
  • Perform system-level modeling and analysis of photonic links, including link budget, transmission impairments, and performance optimization.
  • Drive the optical metrology, test, and characterization of silicon photonic devices and sub-systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., electrical design, packaging, reliability, manufacturing) to ensure seamless integration and successful product delivery.
  • Contribute to the definition of product requirements, architecture, and specifications for silicon photonics-based interconnect solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in silicon photonics and optical communication technologies, and apply them to enhance our products.

What we need to see

  • PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience in silicon photonics or optical communication.
  • Deep understanding of silicon photonics devices and their underlying physics, including optical waveguide theory, passive and active photonic components.
  • Proven track record in photonic IC design, simulation, and characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with optical metrology and test equipment for high-speed optical devices.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor process technology and fabrication aspects for silicon photonics.
  • Proficiency in optical design tools (e.g., Lumerical, Ansys, Cadence) and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++) for device simulation and data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ways to stand out from the crowd

  • Experience with DFM for high volume manufacturing of silicon photonics.
  • Experience with system-level modeling of optical interconnects.
  • Experience with statistical data analysis tools such as JMP or Monte Carlo simulation, and experimental design (DOEs).
