Airbnb was founded in 2007 with a mission to help hosts welcome guests into their homes, growing to over 5 million hosts and 2 billion guest arrivals globally. Our teams are dedicated to enhancing the end-to-end Host and Guest experience and launching new product verticals.
The Listings and Host Tools Data and AI (LHT-DnA) team, part of the Marketplace-DnA organization, focuses on supporting host personalization products and delivering data-driven solutions to improve the host experience on Airbnb. This includes managing your space (MYS) and host quality standards. The team owns data pipelines, ML models, and builds services for serving in these areas.

The Marketplaces Data and AI team works on foundational components related to users, listings, and the marketplace, with a strong emphasis on data quality to ensure product and business success. We aim to strengthen our data foundation and unlock greater value from our data and machine learning models.
We are seeking a data-focused Staff Backend Engineer to help develop the next generation of tools for Airbnb hosts. In this role, you will drive the technology and implementation strategy to directly support hosts in managing their day-to-day business. This involves proactive engagement with various teams and cross-functional partners to achieve your goals.
A Typical Day
- Work with product and ML engineers to explore problem spaces and devise customer solutions.
- Prototype new ideas and influence the product strategy.
- Proactively collaborate with other engineering teams to develop an iterative plan to improve our APIs and architecture.
- Collaborate with other product engineers and partners to develop backend support for data and AI solutions.
- Create technical and execution strategies for new projects and drive hands-on implementation of those solutions.
- Identify areas for improvement and champion the adoption of best practices in product development, engineering architecture, and testing.
- Perform technical design reviews and code reviews.
- Mentor and grow more junior engineers.
Your Expertise
- 10+ years industry experience.
- Experience leading teams, setting technical direction, and building & launching high-impact user-facing products.
- Experience influencing partners such as designers, product managers, and other engineering teams.
- Excitement to ideate, prototype new ideas, and influence product direction.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow more junior engineers, and to set and drive best practices.
