About the Role

Epic Games is looking for a qualified Unreal Engine Software Engineer to join our Character team. As a member of this team, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the character and deformation systems that are used by all Unreal Engine licensees, Epic's internal game teams, and by high-end film and television productions.

From low-level data structures and algorithms, to high-level workflows and tools, you will be working on systems covering animation, rigging, physics, cloth, and more. This is an exciting opportunity to work with some of the best minds in the industry on one of the leading real-time 3D engines.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing new features and workflows related to character animation and deformation.
  • Improving the performance and scalability of existing character systems in Unreal Engine.
  • Working with internal and external partners to improve the workflows and functionality of their products in Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to define the future of character technology in Unreal Engine.
  • Working on editor and runtime systems.

Requirements

  • Strong C++ skills
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, or a similar real-time 3D engine.
  • A strong understanding of character animation/deformation techniques and workflows.
  • Familiarity with animation, rigging, physics, or cloth simulation systems.
  • Experience developing in a large codebase.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, Xcode, or other IDEs.
  • Strong debugging skills.
  • Performance-minded development and optimization skills.
  • Proficiency in mathematics, especially linear algebra.

Nice to have skills

  • Experience with Python.
  • Experience with Perforce, Git, or other SCM systems.
  • Familiarity with the character pipelines in Maya, 3ds Max, or other DCC applications.
